The Best Seat in the House

One of the details people seem most interested in are the champagne cage chairs. I came across this idea from Maria McBride. Above is the "inspirational" image from her website. (Photo courtesy of Alan Richardson.)

My Mom has become quite the expert at making these chairs, so I thought I'd post some pictures of her efforts. There are 22 chairs in total. I like that each chair is handmade, and the project is quite a conversation-starter. More than one person has picked up the needle-nose pliers and gone to work in the course of an evening of hanging-out (and playing Wii). The chairs are not as polished as the inspirational image, and are a bit flimsy. Oh, and too small for a business card. The escort cards (if we can afford a wedding with a sit-down dinner - this is dubious) will have to be quite a bit smaller.

By far and away, the heart design seems to be the most popular non-traditional chair back. Wonder why?

I'm kind of over this idea, really, as I have, oh, 130 more chairs to go. I think these would be nice scattered over the bar(s) (wishful thinking on the plural!). The new "hotness" in escort card design will tie-in better to the science theme.

Remember those butterfly/specimen boxes? I found this paper at the Tinsel Trading Company, and I am DYING to visit the store once the Boards let go of their vice-like grip. I figure I could buy cheap shadow boxes, cut out the butterflies on the paper above, and pin the butterflies to the backing with pearl-head pins. Somehow I would incorporate a person's name and table number. Voila!

As a bonus, check out this groovy bride and groom paper, also at the Tinsel Trading Company:

anna, I think the chairs and the butterflies are great. I don't feel like writing it out, but remind me and I'll tell my thoughts of how to incorporate the guest name and table number to the butterflies.

Wait--I'm no longer the first to post? My narcissism is wounded...

I love the chairs, and everything else.
