Part of my mother's family is from Iceland, hence her first name. Indeed, according to the How Many of Me? website, my mother is one of 1545 people with her first name, and the only person in the US with her first and last name combination.
I love Iceland, studied Old Norse, and visited my junior year of college. After 9/11, I kept thinking I would get back there, that it was the only safe place left in the world. And then their economy collapsed and they became the butt of jokes. So imagine my fascination with the recent volcanic eruption. It's just so quirky and Icelandic. And even better, it's shut down air traffic for the next few days. The Icelandic part of me is all like, "Take that, Europe."
