I have really mixed feelings about having a wedding registry, but the one item that got me most excited is rather silly: the Maxfield Hotel flatware set from Pottery Barn. It is super expensive and kind of ridiculous to buy a mismatched set when, well, you could just spend years stealing silverware from fancy hotels for free. I grew up with a mismatched set, so there's something vaguely comforting about this set. It's funny how much I've tried to recreate my parents' house with our registries. My confusion regarding this set is how to care for it. A few weeks ago, Pottery Barn only recommended handwashing and I was all, "forget that." Now the website says they're dishwasher-safe. I suppose you could do both?

For ladies looking for an alternate, P.O.S.H. Chicago sells a similar set.
