Yet More Venues...Groan

I hate studying, quelle surprise, so I spent the evening trolling BizBash, a website devoted to event planning professionals. Rattling around their venue listings, I found some neat ones I had not considered before.



The Bogardus Mansion

The Arsenal Building (couldn't find a picture), currently home to the NYC Parks and Recreation Department. Rumor has it they have a nice roof deck, but the space may be too small (it can hold 100).



The Morris-Jumel Mansion, Manhattan's oldest mansion, in Washington Heights. This one would need to be tented, but the site fee looks fairly reasonable. The neighborhood, obviously, leaves something to be desired.





The River Room of Harlem, atop Riverbank State Park at 145th Street. This restaurant is most likely very affordable based on its location atop a sewage treatment plant with ridiculous views of the Hudson River. (For non-New Yorkers, the sewage treatment plant part is not as scary as it sounds.) We'd have to transport guests in, or ask that they take the M5 bus, although the site does provide valet parking for $4 a car.






And finally...the one most near and dear to my heart, the Housing Works Thrift Shop Used Book Cafe. Housing Works is a group of thrift stores that service the HIV/AIDS community. As both a physician and a niece whose book editor uncle died of the disease, the idea is captivating. This would be one of those sites where we would get married somewhere else - maybe the Conservatory Garden in Central Park? - and it may not be large enough...But oh, the possibilities!
