So. I kind of read a lot of wedding blogs. A. Lot. Lately I've been burning out on the whole wedding thing, which is probably a very good and necessary thing. When I first started Doctor Whimsy, my intention was to create a space where I could communicate about medical school since I was so far away from those dear to me. The journey through medical school turned out to be far more personal than expected, and it just didn't seem right to write about the things I was experiencing. So the second iteration of Doctor Whimsy was a way to communicate about the wedding with my co-planners who remained far away from me. Maybe it's Boards fatigue (yay, Friday!) but the frivolity of this whole wedding is kind of getting to me.
I try very hard on this blog to filter things through my own lens. Very few of the things I post here are original, but I try not to immediately repost something I read on the bridal blogs. Today, however, A Practical Wedding had this really poignant entry about "budget" wedding advice. The gist was that the game is not to cut your guest list down - after all, shouldn't a wedding be about forging a community? - but to rethink what you feed your guests. This post just totally captured my heart. I've always loved the notion of a cake and punch wedding, and the above cake picture from Ritzy Bee totally melted my heart. I'm not one for hearts, but I am one for homemade, chocolate, and raspberry.
