The Blueberry Muffin Mix
4 overnights in the ER gets tough. I work for one the largest hospitals in the New York City area, and we see everything from the routine hangnail to the liver transplant patient bleeding from their bottom. The problem with the ER is that it functions like a mini-ICU, and I've spent the last 4 nights babysitting head trauma patients and the like because there was no room in the ICU. (Then again, our general floors are no different - we have a cystic fibrosis patient waiting for a lung transplant who is currently being maintained on 10L - 10L!!! - of oxygen, and yes, the ICU refused to take them.) I used to bring these things home with me. But you can't. Every day off is a blessing.
So I have the next several days off (with an afternoon clinic today thrown into the mix). I decided to make blueberry muffins (hacking the lemon poppyseed recipe from Dorie Greenspan's Baking) and listen to music. Too bad they came out a minute undercooked.
