#448

One of my absolute favorite bloggers, MrsEm of Emily Style, has this weekly feature called the "Weekend Round-Up." I always think my mother was like MrsEm when she was my age - so funky and cool and individualistic, but in a graceful way. Anyway, I love reading about MrsEm's weekend adventures because she is so active. I've tried a few times to have a Weekend Round-Up of my own, but now I think I will commit to making it a regular feature. I have a few reasons. One, I am such a homebody that forcing myself to create an adventure to tell will be a good thing. I've found myself staying home more lately out of fear of hanging out with people. With less than three months to go before graduation, I'm afraid of forming more of a relationship because I'll miss my friends too much when they're gone. Lame, I know. Second, people love reading about themselves on the internet (it's true, especially if it's flattering), so it might be fun to have a rotating cast of characters in this space. So, here goes.

Weekend Round-Up

On Friday, I got home at 4, and called Romeo. Off we headed to the mall to pick out some trinkets for two very important people in his life. Surprisingly, we were entirely successful, which was awesome. I spent the rest of the night running errands, and ate dinner at the Wegman's cafe. Home by 9, where I talked to Tom and puttered around my ever growing pile of magazines and catalogs before bed. I woke at 3 AM with a blinding migraine, and as luck would have it, was out of ibuprofen. I spent the next hour cradling my head, attempting distraction with a shower, until I finally waved the white flag and took a generic Tylenol PM. Yup.

Dead to the world until 11 AM, when Tom called. I spent the rest of the afternoon doing laundry and finally putting away my Christmas decorations. This led to a sorting through of my big box o'holidays for things to donate as I'm sure Tom would appreciate not having lots of boxes of holiday stuff in our future place. Then off to meet Anat and Josh for a screening of the Oscar nominated animated shorts. Still feeling bad about how stressed I was trying to get to the screening on time, but Anat is one of those rare people who can handle my outbursts. Thanks, sweetie. We had a blast at the screening - three favorites were The Lady and the Reaper, Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty, and Logorama. Afterwards, we met Romeo and Steve at a coffee shop. Then home it was to spend the wee hours of the morning designing my yearbook page, results below.

Sunday saw a late start of coffee with black bread, honeyed ricotta, and stewed peaches before I set out in the sunshine for more errands. (Okay, there was a fair amount of Mario for Wii playing that happened in between, and a rather long-winded email to someone asking for advice on NYC wedding photographers.) The afternoon was successful, but tempered by another migraine, perhaps the same one from Saturday morning. I caved and bought Coke plus ibuprofen, and then fell asleep for three hours. I spent the rest of the night tidying up the apartment until I finally fell asleep at 4 AM. Here's hoping for a better week...Ironic that my group presentation on migraines takes place tomorrow and Wednesday.

And some prettiness to close:

Tom's Valentine's Day flowers, still going strong....

A brilliant Valentine's Day cake. Wish I had seen this one sooner.

So, is this feature a keeper? Or a bust?
