#321

So this post is a bit overkill. We have scheduled an engagement shoot with our photographer in June, the day before Tom's thesis committee meeting and he has graciously agreed to participate. The whole idea of an engagement shoot is mildly creepy, but I suppose there is some utility. As in: 1) it's already included in our photographer's price (might as well use it), 2) it's an opportunity to get to know our photographer before the wedding, 3) it's a chance for us to learn to feel comfortable in front of a camera, and 4) it's a chance for our photographer to get to know us and our "good angles." I'm not a huge fan of simple voguing. In fact, I think the best engagement shoots are built around a theme or an activity, instead of merely being a collection of kissy shots. (I have a serious problem with kissy shots. Really. They rank up there with the color pink.) The fun part of this exercise are all of the places we could take photos - like the Toy Boat Pond in Central Park, Bethesda Fountain, the Central Park Carousel, our old lab (maybe too cheesy), the Lower East Side in front of some truly graffitti-ed walls, the elevator in the Marriot Marquis (seen of our first non-date), the Great Lawn with my neice and nephew, the "back lot" in the West Village, the fountains in front of the Natural History Museum (and you know I'd have to run through them and get wet)... Some engagement shoots I enjoy below:

(Cly Creation via Wedding Bee - great example of NYC locations)

(Tim Melideo via Green Wedding Shoes - what an awesome concept)

(Punam Bean - I love her hair!)

(Duston Todd - getting wet, done right and in a kiddie pool, no less!)

(Leo Patrone via Snippet & Ink - I'm obviously a fan of the dress, her smile, and the carousel)

(Justin Marantz - because we all know how I secretly dream of being a frustrated 1950s housewife)

(Feather Love Photography - love how this was inspired by the 60's/French new wave. I'm betting this is one of Tom's favorites. He'll appreciate the hairdo.)

(Sarah Yates part 1 and 2 via Vintage Glam - sooo mid-century modern, glamorous, and chic)

And finally, one that's too kissy for me.

I'm kind of obsessed with this model's hair, courtesy of J. Crew. Anyone know how to recreate this look? I think it would be totall badass to be all '60's Bridgette Bardot.

And I'm obsessed with this outfit, also courtesy of the 'Crew. How fun would this be for a wedding shower?

I also suggest The Boat Basin. It is a real arched oddity and very atmospheric I think.
I like the Belvedere Castle.
I like the Guggenheim Museum front.
I like the closed front of our building.
I like Zabar's window.
I like the Village near Mary's Fish Camp.
I like PS 87
