#305

Tom came up to visit this weekend, and what a time we had.

On Friday night, I made lemon sable cookie dough again while Tom washed the mountains of dishes that had piled up throughout the week.

Saturday morning I was off early to round at 7 AM. It was our long call day, so I was fully expecting to work until 7 PM, but my resident let me off at 1:30 after admitting a gentleman from the ED. After grabbing a rushed lunch, we checked out a neat vintage/antique furniture store on the far side of town. And look what we found (and bought, our first furniture purchase together!):

3 Conant Ball dressers in fairly-close-to-mint condition from 1964. And for 20% off.

Then it was off to the flower festival that this city is known for, and home to watch Rachel Getting Married and Quantum of Solace. Of course I was hungry and ate a whole box of couscous, not what the doctor ordered. In between movies I worked on this:

The Counterpane Clutch from Handknit Holidays. Almost finished with one side and I will soon be knitting the other. It's in a beautiful ivory mercerized cotton from Michael's, natch.

Sunday we slept in until 9-ish, and then made coffee and called our mothers. I should have posted this yesterday, but here are some lilacs and cherry blossoms I picked for you, Mom and Lynne. You are loved.

Then it was off to the mall to figure out what the gentlemen will wear on the big day. We tried to eat in this one restaurant that was only taking reservations. It was empty. And serving a buffet. On Mother's Day. Nothing screams I love you like a buffet. On Mother's Day.

So we checked out the merch at Men's Warehouse and found the experience more pleasant than at the mothership, David's Bridal. Tom, as he is wont to do, had a mini epic think about the suit vs. the tuxedo. In the end, I think he'll be happiest with a tuxedo, and Tom being Tom, is coming up with a way in which the groomsmen can all buy a tuxedo (affordably, of course) so that the fit is top notch. Sure. We also stopped by Lord & Taylor and met a white-haired suit salesman who confessed that he was a retired clinical instructor in obstetrics and gynecology, who left after having a stroke in the middle of hysterectomy. Honestly, his deficits were mild, save for a subtle Broca's aphasia.

Then it was off to the bookstore to pick up a copy of Domino: The Book of Decorating in an effort to figure out what on earth we're supposed to do with our new midcentury modern dressers. We highly, highly recommend this book. It of course included my dream bedroom, one I have been trying to recreate in my current apartment in my last halcyon days of feminine freedom:

Must save up for the Madeline Weinrib zig zag rug, but in gray.

Then it was off to the grocery store for 5 frozen dinners and a can of grape leaves (crazy-hours rotation diet), and then home to a distressing conversation about what kind of doctor I will be when I grow up. (Pediatrician, I think.)
