Doctors can be a wee bit pithy at times. As written in last week's New England Journal of Medicine: "...the patient continued to report severe pain in the back as well as abdominal pain, which persisted despite treatment with oxycodone and acetaminophen and interfered with her activities and sleep, and thus she largely stayed in bed." Well, I would too if the NARCOTICS weren't working. Wouldn't you?
Said today in regards to a patient with multiple end-organ failure from diabetes: "[They] have a surprisingly positive outlook on life, in spite of [their] grim prognosis. [They're] a full code, you know, which they won't survive." (Meaning, if they code they get the works - resuscitation, CPR...)
